After "The Oracle," an album that reached the top spot on the American charts, Godsmack releases their sixth studio effort: 1000hp (horsepower nda). The album title reflects the power, the horsepower of a racing car. The opener/title track is the classic "Godsmack song" powerful, loaded, and with the right choruses placed at the right moments, helping to raise the listener's adrenaline. The album continues with "FML" and "Something Different," a slightly atypical track for the band's standards but one that shows how the current Godsmack is willing to take risks without in any way attempting to distort their sound, which has been solidified with previous albums. The entire record holds many pleasant surprises, such as the lengthy "Generation Day" or the vibrant "Locked & Loaded", pieces that are (in their own small way) original and inspired. From the very first listen, people familiar with their work will shout "heard it before," but most tracks (especially those in the second half of the album) are captivating, pumped up, well-played, and different from the latest genre releases, which have recently been increasingly leaning toward mimicking historic bands and repeating the same formula that numerous hard rock groups experimented with in the past. Certainly not a masterpiece, but after decent albums like "IV" and "The Oracle," a welcomed return of one of the most well-known and appreciated modern alternative metal bands in the USA.
