The Profile

Goad are a Florentine progressive rock band formed in 1983 by brothers Maurilio and Gianni Rossi. Led by Maurilio, they craft dark, symphonic-tinged albums often inspired by literature, including tributes to Edgar Allan Poe and H. P. Lovecraft. Releases span labels like Black Widow, Mellow, and more, and their sound carries a distinctive, brooding character referenced alongside VDGG, Genesis, and King Crimson.

Formed in Florence in 1983 by Maurilio and Gianni Rossi; frontman Maurilio composes, writes, sings, and plays most instruments. Early release: Creatures (1983). Two concept tributes: Tribute To Edgar Allan Poe (1995, Multipromo) and The Wood – Dedicated To H.P. Lovecraft (2005, Mellow Records). Black Widow Records released titles including Masquerade (2011) and The Silent Moonchild (2016). Landor is a double CD honoring Walter Savage Landor, with a second disc live set revisiting the 1994/1995 Poe material. Dusketha (18 tracks, ~155 minutes) continues the Keats-inspired cycle, expands to other poets (including T. S. Eliot, Jorie Graham, Edgar Lee Masters, Lovecraft), and features Max Cirone’s bounce-to-bounce analog/digital production.

Goad are a Florence-based Italian dark prog institution led by Maurilio Rossi, active since 1983. Reviews highlight dense, literary concept albums and a distinctive, gloomy symphonic edge. The Silent Moonchild delivers nightmare-fueled prog; Landor honors poet Walter Savage Landor and adds a live Poe tribute disc. Dusketha extends their Keats-inspired cycle across 18 tracks and 155 minutes, blending analog warmth with introspective arrangements. References to VDGG, Genesis, and King Crimson appear, but the band’s voice remains unique.
