The Profile

Japanese manga artist and writer, a pioneer of the super robot and ecchi genres; creator of Devilman, Mazinger Z and Cutie Honey; active since the late 1960s.

Harenchi Gakuen (La scuola senza pudore) ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from Aug 1968 to Sep 1972 and is cited as a progenitor of the ecchi genre; it drew PTA protests and spawned TV, live-action and OVA adaptations. Reviews here cover Devilman (manga and OVA), Mazinkaiser and the Mazinger lineage, highlighting censorship histories, violent and iconoclastic tones, and OVA soundtracks by JAM Project.

Reviews celebrate Go Nagai’s extremes: Devilman’s tragic apocalypse, the scandalous and foundational Harenchi Gakuen, and the iron myth of Mazinger through Mazinkaiser and its OVA mayhem. Emphasis on violence, satire, and genre-defining ideas. Strong praise, with nods to controversies, censorship and wild storytelling.
