Well, look what popped out of my disorganized music collection today! Who even remembered having a couple of Gluecifer records!
I remember very well their story that began in the mid-nineties and continued until 2005; they originate from Oslo, the capital of Norway.
With a very Hard Rock'n'Roll sound comparable to bands of the same period like The Hellacopters and Turbonegro; adding to this a proud Punk attitude that never hurts. This second album released "Soaring With Eagles..." is, according to many, their best work; I think the same way. Although I found one flaw: the extremely long title of the work; it practically takes more time to write the title than to listen to all eleven tracks that make up the album. Adding to this the modus operandi of the five guys that borders on madness given the absurd speeds reached in almost every song.
The start is entrusted to two lethal tracks: "Bossheaded" with its initially quiet moments where a simple and energetic guitar riff then gives way to the endless war cry of vocalist Biff Malibu (!!). And from this moment the song explodes in a few explosive minutes of authentic sonic delirium; but it's only the beginning because with the short "Go Away Man" they manage to give even more speed to their demonic progression, with a finale that shakes you from head to toe thanks to the abrasive six-string solos.
There are few, very few moments where they slow down the pace like in the long, almost six-minute, "Deadend Beat" which is a much more canonical Hard-Rock of seventies memory, closely resembling the Kiss.
But they give their best in the roadier pieces played with overwhelming impetuosity: and so it is right to mention the twins "Silver Wings" and "Clean Gone Mean" where the speed they manage to maintain is lightning fast; so possessed and swift that they incorporate, in their fiery progression, an entirely Hardcore-Punk sound. Believe me, it's a marvel.
Seen live in those years in the now-defunct basement of Rainbow in Milan; they showed up in suits and ties but remained composed for only a few minutes, setting the hot, cramped, and smoky Milan venue ablaze.
Little else to say: great Gluecifer and great album...PUMP AT THE VOLUME...
