Last night I attended the concert of Giovanni Sollima in the splendid setting of Villa Rufolo in Ravello, the city of music in the scenery of the Amalfi Coast.
Even though I had listened to numerous works by Sollima, at the first notes he played on his cello, I realized that I was not attending just any concert and that Sollima is much more than a musician. To say he plays the cello magnificently would be reductive and mortifying. Giovanni Sollima does not play the cello, Giovanni Sollima and the cello are one, like in a love affair full of passion and sentiment. I had chills just watching him, he transcended himself and was literally possessed by the music. He gasped, moaned, screamed; our eyes were hypnotized by his gestures and his extreme concentration. When he played, he was no longer on stage in front of us but walked and explored the landscapes of his soul, with pain, with love, with despair.

A concert I recommend not to miss.
