LA RECENSIONE

After a somewhat presumptuous demo (which includes among the 15 proposed tracks some PJ Harvey covers), the Sardinian singer-songwriter Giovanni Sechi, first known as The Glass -then he must have gotten tired of his own English- begins to record a demo of original songs in Italian.

It would be easy to take the guy apart just for the way he sings, considering he surely knows by heart the albums of both Afterhours and Placebo as well as those of -alas- Carmen Consoli.
This preview EP shows two glimpses from the subsequent demo:
one harder, almost punk, "tragicomic" (thanks to the text, happily ambiguous) supported by some acoustic guitar, a bit plucked, a bit distorted -a vague reminiscence of Venus-
On the other side is something entirely different, a subdued ballad (until the instrumental crescendo) that fascinates and seduces from the first listen.

perhaps a take with less awkward singing would better support this, in the end, well-deserved appreciation, but for now, the apprentice Sechi passes the trial by fire without a hitch.
