Giorgio Scerbanenco (1911–1969) was an Italian writer best known for his Milan-set crime novels and for creating the investigator Duca Lamberti. His work is noted for bleak urban atmosphere and social themes.

Creator of the Duca Lamberti quadrilogy (including Venere privata/Private Venus, I ragazzi del massacro, Traditori di tutti/Betrayers of All, I milanesi ammazzano il sabato/The Milanese Kill on Saturday). Themes include urban decay, exploitation, and moral ambiguity.

Reader reviews praise Scerbanenco's Milanese noir and the flawed, human figure of Duca Lamberti. The Duca Lamberti quadrilogy is highlighted for its escalating brutality and social critique. Reviews mix admiration for atmosphere with notes of narrative limits.

For:Readers of mid-20th-century Italian crime fiction, noir fans, and those interested in Milan-set social crime novels.

The Milan I found in the novels of the series featuring Duca Lamberti is indeed far from the city of “pheeeega,” of money, of cocaine… It is hard, barren, filthy, poor... hopeless, it reminds me a bit of the Vallette and barrierana areas of Turin.
