LA RECENSIONE

I see a friend coming from afar with a surprised expression hidden by a smile. In his hands, he holds a copy of ‘’Io uccido’’ by Giorgio Faletti. He stands in front of me and says, ‘’You will never be able to discover the killer's name, even when everything seems clear to you!’’. And so, between one night and another, the thriller-horror novel by the Piedmontese writer left me more and more bewildered and yet astounded at the same time.

Perhaps many will contradict me, insult me as often happens on Debaser. Why? Because, in reality, I would never have laid my hands on that book. The thriller genre mixed with a pinch of horror doesn't attract me. It's not like a good mystery book that keeps you on edge until the end of its pages. However, this one knows how to do it: Faletti has proven impeccable in writing the text. His smooth writing (sometimes too much?) helps not to ‘’feel’’ almost 700 pages, and even flashbacks and interesting anecdotes about the characters do not hinder the story. I haven't read the books he published after this masterpiece, out of laziness or perhaps prejudice, but if this book hasn't crossed your path yet, do everything you can to get it: it will be worth it, without a doubt. There are many characters. So many nuances among them and even a pinch of ‘’comedic touch’’ that never hurt anyone. It's true, I confirm that the ending loses the zest and rhythm that the book had reached in the initial and middle parts, but this, in my humble opinion, does not lower the quality of the work.
