LA RECENSIONE

After a long and exhausting search for some new and interesting musical suggestions, as usual, I took the DeLorean and decided to shelter myself in the eternal innocent past, mainly made up of Lunapop and 883, top-notch quality stuff, in short. Then a distant memory returns from the beyond of Italo dance, this Gino Latino. A serious oversight, it's better to dust it off from oblivion.

In the clubs, they presumably also played Gino Latino: a mysterious Italo-American with rather questionable English who sang...rapped...talked...'you know, did "things" on edgy tracks presumably discarded from the OST of "Miami Vice"; but who the heck was this guy, and what on earth was he doing raves in the 90s talking like that?

The mysterious DJ's only work is this EP containing the super famous Welcome plus 2 remixes, a live version, and to finish off with a bang, YO! (the song). From the first, what certainly needs to be remembered is the very incisive text, moreover sung in a horrendous macaronic English.

Feel that body in your body I really like to party Work your body to the bone House music all night long House music all night long House music all night long Work your body Work your body Cause I really like to party (from Welcome)

The lyrics reported above repeat for about 10 minutes. Daft Punk are nothing in comparison.

Yo! is very similar to Welcome, only here at least you dance and double the drugs. Moreover, the rhythm is much catchier and Gino's Italo accent is not as invasive as in Welcome.

In summary, this little work is fun, danceable but negligible (yo!), but what everyone still asks is who the heck is this Gino Latino, who after these two trips vanished into thin air and disappeared, like tears in rain...

Summary by Bot

The review delves into Gino Latino's 'Welcome' EP, recalling a nostalgic 90s Italo dance vibe marked by quirky, catchy but repetitive lyrics. While fun and danceable, the work remains obscure with the artist's identity shrouded in mystery. Tracks like 'Welcome' and 'YO!' offer a retro house music experience, though the lyrics and delivery may feel unusual to modern listeners. Ultimately, it's a forgotten gem worth revisiting for fans of nostalgic electronic dance music.
