The Profile

British trio formed by brothers Peter and Michael Giles with Robert Fripp. Active in 1967–1968, they released the eccentric pop album The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp and left demos later compiled as The Brondesbury Tapes; members went on to the first King Crimson lineup.

Personnel: Peter Giles (bass), Michael Giles (drums), Robert Fripp (guitar). Released one studio album on Deram in 1968 (The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles & Fripp) and singles including One In A Million/Thursday Morning. Demos and home recordings surfaced on The Brondesbury Tapes. Michael Giles and Robert Fripp co-founded King Crimson soon after.

A single, positive review spotlights Giles, Giles & Fripp’s eccentric 1968 album The Cheerful Insanity. It highlights the trio’s pre–King Crimson lineup, witty voice-overs, and Fripp’s budding guitar brilliance. Notes the Deram reissue with bonuses and the forgotten singles. Overall verdict: lively, refined, and still intriguing.
