Gianluca Grignani represents the most controversial Italian artist of the last 20 years.
The artistic journey of "Grigna" I encapsulate in a circle and "Sdraiato su una nuvola" is the work that closes it, reconnecting him to "Destinazione Paradiso".
For those unfamiliar with his story, after the incredible debut, the good Milanese embarks on a path of musical experimentation between "Fabbriche di Plastica" and "Campi di Popcorn", being recognized as the best Italian artist of the 90s, until a decline that would make any fan of the "Joker" pale.
"Sdraiato su una nuvola" was born between tours, Monza Rock Festival, and his stay in India during the filming of the movie "Branchie" (a very bad movie).
And it is here that everyone expected a grunge Grignani, with dark and introspective sounds, but it was not so.
That 27-year-old boy, angry with the world, psychedelic and reckless disappears forever (also due to the "commercial flops" of the previous two albums).
"Sdraiato su una nuvola" follows the "Giorno perfetto" (and not the previously seen psychedelic rock) with a series of pop ballads and a singer-songwriter style heavily influenced by a John Lennon box set, consumed during the filming of the movie.
"Speciale", "Sincero e Leggero", "Le mie parole", and the title track are high-level tracks (very high in lyrics), but above all, in a slow, calm and "flat" album towards the end, "La libertà" stands out, a track very similar to "Giorno perfetto".
"Sdraiato su una nuvola" represents the swan song of the "Joker", who after 5 albums in 6 years, will stop experimenting and start trimming hedges, composing tracks of fairly questionable quality with small gems composed between 1995 and 1999 and inserted into the albums released in the new millennium ("Alex", "Le-Ro-Là", "Bambina dallo Spazio").
