New album by Gianluca Becuzzi, now a veteran of the Italian dark-industrial scene (Limbo, Noise Trade Company, Kinetix, Grey History). The musician from Livorno, over the years, has explored an original language marked by uncompromising experimentation demonstrating that he always has something to say. The new album, titled Faraway From Light, significantly approaches avant-garde music. Compared to the previous Deceptionland, an excellent work rich in various nuances, Faraway From Light – divided into 3 tracks – is more monolithic and reconnects with greater determination to ambient-industrial settings. The opening track "Evil Throughout History [a]", with its menacing atmosphere, immediately puts us in the mood of the album. The centerpiece and central core of Faraway From Light is constituted by the long "The Addiction" (almost 37 minutes), already presented in the past as the soundtrack for the film of the same name by Abel Ferrara. The beginning is dark and ambient, immersing us in a dreamlike and foggy landscape: it feels like flying over a war-ravaged city from above in an airplane; then the music becomes jarring and dissonant, evoking the noise of abandoned factories. Becuzzi employs the field recordings technique and, for the occasion, has used sounds recorded at Teufelsberg in Berlin. The wall of sound created is imposing and connects not only to the tradition of early industrial but also to certain Krautrock experiences like Kluster. It is clear that behind the genesis of this work there is a solid background of listening in the experimental area. It is music that has its own charm and evokes a timeless beauty in its alternation of calm moments with others of devastating power. The concluding "Evil Throughout History [b]" closes the circle with metallic buzzes and dark tolls. Overall, it is an excellent work that confirms the vitality of the Italian experimental scene which, while remaining niche, manages in any case to carve out its own space. The album is released by the Swiss labels Luce Sia and Show Me Your Wound Production.
