Can one sing directly to the soul?
Can one reach such depths where a person, engrossed in their daily life, forgets their essence made of pure spirituality?

The Japanese Ghost delve into the human psyche by deconstructing music and reducing it to the very substance of air...hypnotizing the listener, who, not knowing quite what to expect, allows themselves to be carried away on this ascetic journey, this illusory voyage, this sound labyrinth.

This album, Hypnotic Underworld, is complex and difficult to listen to, yet at the same time wise and rich. Rich in almost whispered sounds, instruments pushed to the extreme, sonic whirlwinds ranging from Japanese drums and Irish flutes to Barrett-style psychedelic rock (mentioned, by the way, in the wonderful Dominoes), to the dominating organ in Dominoes, to the guitar and drum solos. All of it crafted in an almost obsessive, hypnotic, and at times, disorienting form!

Highly recommended for those who have seen masterpieces in Piper at the Gates of Dawn or Ummagamma by Pink Floyd. For others, I suggest giving it a chance because this album is simply.....a masterpiece!
