The 'Get Set Go' were born from the ashes of "The Spriggans," a fairly unknown band belonging to that movement that spawned the likes of "Fatso Jetson," "Queens of the Stone Age," and "Brant Bjork and The Operators."

Formed in 2002, they began playing in Los Angeles venues before heading to the studio to record their debut album "So You've Ruined Your Life." An album that on first listen might seem raw and boring and on a second listen just as much. The GSG attempt to distinguish themselves from other punk-rock bands with a simple and direct sound featuring clean riffs and an impeccable rhythm section, without, however, denying a certain (albeit very vague) complexity in structure and some harmonic transitions.
The result is a faded copy between the Ramones and Weezer. It starts with an energetic but not exceptional "Twenty-one," which at times recalls the "Foo Fighters." In the first part, one of the album's major flaws is already evident: the repetitiveness. In fact, the second Ramones-style piece "Jesus Christ Wore Leather," although one of the best, still ends up following the same pattern as "Twenty-one." And so it will be for the third track, the fourth, and so on.

In this way, the really interesting songs (which are still few) continue to get lost in the gigantic mire of monotony. The things that leave an impression on the listener are the shouted "I Want You", the mediocre "Go To The Mattress" (a plagiarism of the famous hit "Superman" by "Five For Fighting"), "Break Your Heart" worthy of the worst Simple Plan, the catchy "She Goes Round" that vaguely reminds one of 'Me First and The Gimme Gimmes.'
Reaching the 13th track, more or less when my tolerance level was collapsing, my only thought was: "Come on, hold on, there are only two left!" And yet, "What I Love About You" is the unexpected piece, a poignant ballad for guitar and voice, not even that wonderful, but which becomes for me like rain in a field scorched by the heat. A necessary breather, inexplicably relegated to the end (when it would have been handy to insert it between one guitar outburst and another).

But the best is yet to come. There is only the Bonus Track left, "Wait". A little pearl of pop-melancholy, completely disparate from the rest of the other pieces. "Wait" thus manages to save an album that is certainly not disastrous, but terribly bland. Insufficient with reservation. Songs worth listening to: "Wait", "Jesus Christ Wore Leather"
