Gescom returns with a new anticipated EP, this time on Skullsnap, the esoteric hip hop division of the historic in-house label, Skam.

Devoted to the double H as well as to the ever-present experimentation, "Skull Snap" can be said to be a suitable follow-up to what was heard in the latest works of the project, now dating back four years and all, more or less, united by this binomial. Once again, it is an unsigned release but, at a glance, not many traces of Autechre are seen (let's remember among the main minds of the collective).

The disappointing excursion into French touch territories of "Seventh Stone Triangle" (of which only the doped beat is saved) and the radical "Cake Mic" (an android and glitchy hip hop that references "Minidisc" while showcasing both compositional freshness and notable creative peaks) are the cross and delight of side A. The deliberately lo-fi production provides unique chromatic effects to "Seventh Ace Deuce" (beat this time more classic that perhaps suffers from the absence of some rap over it), "R Zee Oner Panix" displays IDM veins and funk sounds, the latter present in less technological forms also on the excellent "V Take Fastroll"

Original but with an eye on the old school, the new direction of this project; at this point, we hope for further releases.
