THE REVIEW

I mean, electronic music used to be Kraftwerk...

Electronic music used to be something for geeks, for the crazy, the time-wasters, the visionaries, and the druggies.

Electronic music was worth less than rock music!

Maybe this discussion is still valid today, I don't know, but these GesamtKunstWerk (GKW for friends) bring a bit of fresh air to the Italian current of this genre. This Roman band with a name that's hard to pronounce (in German it means Total Work of Art) actually tries to rethink the form of the Italian song. These guys undoubtedly make electronic music, an excessive use of computers and sampled sounds, but fundamentally, they still make songs. And they do it well.

Verses and choruses follow each other while always leaving room for a foot tapping, eager to dance.

From the hit "Valeria e i poliziotti", a mix of Drum&Bass and EmoRock, to the visionary and paranoid "2mila10", passing through the electroPunk of "La merda a lu cervellu" and the romantic "Taci (tribute to Patrizia Valduga)".

So, a new band! New... it's still about songs, that's clear, but these guys seem to have pretty clear ideas about their very personal idea of SONG. Lyrics with personality and arrangements that are truly fresh make this first and small EP a gem of a poor 2010.

Some curiosities: behind the band hides a cultural association called Calde Correnti Chimiche from which the group takes inspiration for new songs and especially material to decorate the stage during their live shows with photos, paintings, and more. MaMo is the visual artist who takes care of projections during their shows and who also makes the videos with which the band 'promotes' their work online, this is their YouTube channel, follow it, it's a suggestion.

Keep up with these guys
