George Wallington (born Giacinto Figlia, 1924–1993) was an Italian‑born American jazz pianist and composer associated with the 1940s bebop scene. He composed tunes such as "Lemon Drop" and "Goldchild" and led recordings including Live! at Cafe Bohemia (1955).

Born in Palermo in 1924 and emigrated to the United States in 1925; active in the bebop movement from the 1940s; credited composer of "Lemon Drop" and "Goldchild"; leader on Live! at Cafe Bohemia (1955); returned for a special appearance in Palermo in the 1980s.

A positive, historically minded review by Caravan focusing on George Wallington's fidelity to bebop. The Live! at Cafe Bohemia (1955) set is praised for performance and compositions such as Sweet Blanche, Lemon Drop and Goldchild. The piece situates Wallington within the 1940s bebop scene and notes a later Palermo appearance in the 1980s.

For:Jazz fans, bebop enthusiasts, jazz historians, piano aficionados

If Giacinto Figlia had stayed in Palermo (after being born there in 1924) instead of emigrating as an infant to America in 1925 with his family, being the son of an artist - his father was an opera singer - he probably would have embarked on an honest career as a pianist, even if he would not have certainly become George Wallington, a meteoric figure in the jazz firmament and historically counted among what is considered the first be bop group, formed in 1943 by a handful of musicians like Byas on tenor, Roach on drums, Pettiford on double bass, Gillespie on trumpet, and, indeed, Wallington on piano.
