THE REVIEW

Whether the "prequel" (set before the trilogy we know) of Star Wars is enjoyable or not depends entirely on what we expect from such a film. Probably the "theorists" of the trilogy, a bit older now, will find The Phantom Menace a terrible disappointment. Many others, more in touch with their inner child, able to use the force of their fiery flesh swords, will scream with delight.

The cast doesn't manage to give their best, partly due to acting with imaginary computer-generated counterparts; many of the dialogues are unbearable and the plot quite insubstantial. Despite this, the film is formidable: action, special effects, variety of characters.

Did you know that Darth Maul, the villain, manages to hold his own against two Jedi simultaneously with a laser sword that's a whopping 28 cm? Well, just for this alone, as far as I'm concerned, the film deserves 5 stars!
