Geoff Tate's Queensryche

Musical Group

A post-2012 lineup led by original Queensryche singer Geoff Tate that released Frequency Unknown in 2013 during a legal dispute over the band name.

Geoff Tate was the longtime lead singer of Queensrÿche. Following a 2012 split with other members, Tate led a separate touring and recording project that released the album Frequency Unknown in 2013 under the Queensryche name while a lawsuit over the name was active; the legal dispute was settled in 2014 with the original members retaining the Queensrÿche name.

The review judges Frequency Unknown as an uneven attempt by Geoff Tate to reconnect with Queensryche's past. Vocals remain recognizable but often uninterested; songwriting fluctuates between serviceable and lackluster. Production is described as cold and imbalanced. The reviewer prefers the contemporaneous release by the other Queensryche lineup.

For:Long-time Queensryche fans; listeners of progressive/heavy metal interested in post-split releases.
