Headache. Here's my comment!

Five albums from 1976 to 1982, a disc of extra tracks available only on singles, 6 DVDs with a lot of interesting video material, but I can only warn listeners who have their eyes on this box set. The box, the booklets, the bonus disc, and the DVDs with the videos are all elements of high interest and certainly the winning points of this product, particularly the fantastic concert film "Genesis in Concert 1976" on "A Trick Of The Tail" with Bill Bruford on drums. But not everything went right in my opinion: each album has been remastered at a very high volume, the frequencies have been expanded, and each album tends to sound like a production from recent years. But as laudable as the sound engineers' intent is, the result will undoubtedly perplex those who have known and worn out these albums for years.

I'm not sure exactly what's wrong, an excess of high frequencies, the volume dynamics flattened toward the high levels, perhaps even a remix of the original tracks, the fact is that after 10 minutes a decent "listening fatigue" sets in, which, with prolonged listening, turns into a headache! It feels like listening to an alternative version of an album that you should already know well.

I haven't had a chance to hear the SACD version, and I sincerely hope that these new remasters have been made specifically to highlight the high-definition audio features of this format. The 5.1. sound of the DVDs, although pleasant and immersive, also presents the same sonic assault on the eardrums. Therefore, I will hold on tightly to both the original non-remastered versions and the decent remaster CDs from the 90s, both of which contain the true original sound of the albums.

As for the music, there are already many reviews of the albums contained here. A Genesis fan, however, cannot miss out on the box set; for all music lovers, my advice is to get "A Trick of the Tail" for the splendid video mentioned earlier.

The rating would theoretically be 5 stars, but since, as explained, the box doesn't allow for the replacement of the old versions of the albums, I deducted 2 stars.
