Childhood, the moments and the days spent together. So many memories, so many emotions, unique moments. Always together, despite the passing of time, travel companions. Friends, or rather brothers who accompany you throughout your life, share with you the pains and joys of life. Always by your side, together involved in a period where each discovers himself, and those who stand by you. You know everything about each other and you know that even though time has passed, the memories will always remain in the hearts of the "Three" who lived them and were part of this magnificent adventure that we will never forget. Nothing will erase those days and those magnificent and splendid emotions, like once together, and we hope that the friendship lasts forever with the awareness that what is past will not return, but everything that was there still exists...
This is what this album means to me. The title perfectly reflects the period that I and my two fraternal friends spent together. A wonderful period lived in perfect harmony. At the base of it, there was a very strong friendship that kept us united even in difficult times.
Like the Genesis of "... And Then There Were Three" we too were left in "Three". The album was released in 1978. After Peter Gabriel's departure, Steve Hackett also left the band, and the three remaining survivors, Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford decided to continue. Without Steve Hackett, all the guitar parts are entrusted to Mike Rutherford.
The journey into memories begins with "Down And Out" which starts with an introduction of keyboards and guitar. The song is performed without the use of bass, which is done with the keyboards. "Undertow" is a crescendo of emotions, of magic with a Phil Collins in a state of grace. Truly magnificent. "Ballad Of Big" is characterized by keyboards and Phil's drums. "Snowbound" is a very melodic piece in which all the ingredients of Genesis are present. Magnificent and enchanting is "Burning Rope" which is the longest track on the album. During the seven minutes, there are continuous changes of time and key. Mike Rutherford on guitar seems very inspired. Truly unique. "Deep In Motherlode" is also very beautiful with the three playing excellently. The most melancholic song on the album is "Many Too Many" with a piano that delights the listener throughout the song. Towards the end, the part with the keyboards is wonderful. "Scenes From A Night's Dream" is the account of a dream. "Say It's All Right Joe" is the story of a drunkard who is mocked by the kings mentioned in the song. "The Lady Lies" is a very beautiful and classical track. The album closes with "Follow You Follow Me" which will become a piece much appreciated by women and will remain for a long time in international charts.
The album is particular for the intensity that exists between one track and another. A classical atmosphere is present in every track. Here and there there's something of the old Genesis, remixed with the sounds of the band's era. A compact and deeply melancholic album.
In life, every person lives intense, unforgettable, and unique moments. We must live them to the fullest, hope they last as long as possible. Hope that the people who lived them with you always remain by your side and that together you will pass other moments to write in the "book" of your lives as we once did... But that's another story...
Dedicated to my two lifelong friends.
