Gene Clark (born 1944 in Tipton, Missouri — died 1991) was an American singer-songwriter and a founding member of the Byrds. He is widely regarded as an influential figure in the development of country-rock and Americana through his solo albums and compositions.

Co-founder and principal early songwriter for the Byrds; left the group after the first two albums. Celebrated solo albums include White Light and No Other. Later years marked by health problems and struggles with alcohol and drugs; archival releases and demos have expanded his posthumous reputation.

DeBaser's reviews present Gene Clark as a singular songwriter and Byrds co-founder whose solo work (notably White Light and No Other) is widely admired. Reviews praise his lyricism and pioneering country-rock contributions while noting periods of uneven output and personal struggles. Archival collections and demos are valued for completing his catalog.

For:Fans of 1960s folk-rock, country-rock, singer-songwriters, and Byrds aficionados.

Like its predecessors, this collection of very simple, great songs remained ignored by the general public, definitively dragging its author towards oblivion.
