Gemma Hayes is an Irish songwriter who has gained recognition from the public and the specialized press overseas with a series of EPs that quickly labeled her as part of the "New Acoustic Movement." However, the release of her debut album "Night On My Side" in 2002 revealed the more determined and aggressive side of this girl, who, with the help of Dave Friedman, producer of the Flaming Lips, crafted a series of songs in which acoustic moments alternate with situations where distortions create a disorienting effect and strong emotional impact.
The final result is an album where, paradoxically, the electric part is the most interesting and engaging, while the acoustic songs, although not lacking moments of absolute beauty ("Over And Over" above all), turn out to be the least impactful.
