Gemma Hayes is an Irish songwriter who has gained recognition from the public and the specialized press overseas with a series of EPs that quickly labeled her as part of the "New Acoustic Movement." However, the release of her debut album "Night On My Side" in 2002 revealed the more determined and aggressive side of this girl, who, with the help of Dave Friedman, producer of the Flaming Lips, crafted a series of songs in which acoustic moments alternate with situations where distortions create a disorienting effect and strong emotional impact.
The final result is an album where, paradoxically, the electric part is the most interesting and engaging, while the acoustic songs, although not lacking moments of absolute beauty ("Over And Over" above all), turn out to be the least impactful.

02 Hanging Around (03:36)
I used to want the morning
You and me
Just hanging around
But I can't shake this feeling off
Can't shake this dead-weight off of my back
It's a troubled place we stay
But we just play it out
You givetoo much away
It leaves you cold, oh, oh
Got no place else to go
In a daze
Just hanging around
It's a dirt ground we crawl upon
I've stared at your face for much too long
It's a troubled place we stay
Where we just wait it out
Watch us give too much away
It leaves you cold, oh oh
Cold, oh oh
I used to want the morning
You and me just hanging around
It's a troubled game we stage
Where we just play it out
Watch us give too much away
And we just wait it out
And the words you meant to say
And the words I gave away
It leaves you cold, oh oh
Cold,oh oh
Cold,oh oh
Cold.
03 Back of My Hand (03:48)
I'll be seeing you tomorrow
I'll be seeing you again
God knows we've said so little
I'd go so far as to call you a friend
But there's something in your ways
That keeps me vying for a connection
And I know you feel the same
It's become a two-way addiction
Come on and give me your heart
Write it on the back of my hand
And say it's forever
Well we never really said goodbye
Kinda left it in the air
And as the train pulled off I knew you loved her more
Oh no no no no
I'm not afraid to lose
Oh no no no no
Just give me some time and I'll walk to a different groove
Go on and give her your heart
Write it on the back of her hand
And say it's forever
Go on and give her your heart
Write it on the back of her hand
And say it's forever
That's alright, that's ok, the thoughts of you are leaving
That's alright, that's ok, the thoughts of you are leaving
Anyway, are fading anyway
Come on and give her your heart
Write it on the back of her hand
And say it's forever
Come on and give me your heart
Come on and give me your heart
Come on and give me your heart
