THE REVIEW

One of the most beautiful albums released last year.

I'm talking about "Night," an album by Gazpacho, a Norwegian neo-progressive band. This nation is usually known for its black metal bands (one name above all, Dimmu Borgir); we're far from that type of sound. In this case, one can notice the closeness to certain Radiohead songs, and Jan Henrik Ohme’s voice bears some resemblance to Thom Yorke’s. The rhythm of the songs is, in some parts, decidedly different. With a typically prog taste, the songs are elongated, the sounds decidedly more muted; the atmosphere is ethereal and pleasantly accompanies the listener.

In some passages, the songs show more vitality and energy, offering an appreciated alternation of sounds. The quality of the album is immediately noticeable, starting from the first track "Dream Of Stone"; lasting a full 17 minutes! Right away, you encounter the typical sounds of this album; in certain passages, the listener is carried away with sublime lightness. "Upside Down", the third track, is notable for the ending with a simply fantastic touch of violin, which leaves the listener struck and fascinated. Moving forward, the group manages to broaden its scope, and a greater sense of creativity emerges. In "Valerie's Friends" and "Massive Illusion", acoustic and electric guitars alternate, offering notes worthy of a ballad. The album closes with an instrumental of violin and piano that is absolutely remarkable, probably the best part of the entire album.

The group is very interesting; it captivates the listener, allowing them to momentarily detach from everyday reality. Absolutely ideal if one wants to be alone, in their own tranquility, letting thoughts and dreams wander in their mind. It is an album that starts slowly but, as you proceed in listening, reveals all its brilliance; it proves to be sophisticated and evocative.
