Gaunt was an American punk band from Columbus, Ohio, active in the 1990s and known for a raw, low-fidelity sound that mixed furious punk attacks and melodic songwriting. Jerry Wick was the band's singer, guitarist and primary songwriter. Key releases include I Can See Your Mom From Here and Bricks And Blackouts.

Recorded with Steve Albini (I Can See Your Mom From Here) and released on labels including Crypt Records; Bricks And Blackouts is reviewed as their swan song and was released on Warner before the band were dropped. Jerry Wick died after being struck by a drunk truck driver while biking home, as reported in contemporary reviews.

Two DeBaser reviews celebrate Gaunt's raw, derelict lo-fi punk and their evolution toward more melodic songwriting. Reviewers highlight the debut 'I Can See Your Mom From Here' (recorded with Steve Albini) and the mature final album 'Bricks And Blackouts'. The coverage is admiring but shaded by the tragic death of Jerry Wick.

For:Fans of 1990s punk, lo-fi and garage rock; collectors of underground American punk; readers of DeBaser.

Gaunt was a simply DE-VA-STATING band!
