In the beginning, there were the Gleemen, authors of a self-titled (and only) LP, released in 1970, characterized by ‘60s sounds and blues. Then came the name change to Garybaldi, and the company's focus shifted in favor of a progressive sound so popular in the Italian "seventies." The recognized leader of the group was Pier Niccolò Fossati (brother of the more famous Ivano), known as Bambi, a guitarist of notable technique (reminiscent of Hendrix).
"Nuda," their first LP, arrived in 1972.
The lineup that recorded the album consisted of "Bambi," vocals and guitar, Angelo Traverso on bass, Maurizio Cassinelli on drums, and Lio Marchi on keyboards. 5 tracks in total, spread between Side A and Side B.
The first side represents the more accessible yet virtuoso aspect of our heroes, far removed from traditional song structure: from the Hendrixian fury of "Maya desnuda" to the complex structures of "26 febbraio 1700," passing through a dark intermezzo ("Decomposizione, paura e pace"), culminating in the melody traced by the keyboards of "L'ultima graziosa." The other side is reserved for the sprawling and surreal suite "Moretto da Brescia." Divided into three parts, it lucidly represents Garybaldi's sonic alchemy: ethereal atmospheres, alternated with rapid guitar escapes, serve as the backdrop for the story of the valiant soldier Goffredo; the central section of the suite (Il giardino del Re: intermezzo) is undoubtedly the highlight.
With "Nuda," Garybaldi provides a well-defined interpretation of the local progressive personality, not merely a derivative genre from across the Channel, but rather one endowed with native characteristics that make it absolutely personal. Listening is not recommended. It is absolutely obligatory!
Finally. The beautiful cover is by Guido Crepax (yes, the creator of "Valentina," the famous comic).

Fossati creates a personal hard-blues by modulating everything on incredibly Hendrixian sounds.
This album is a welcome discovery for those looking to explore our country in a harder key.
