Alex Cross (played by Morgan Freeman, who will reprise this role in the future) is a detective who has to deal with a maniac nicknamed 'Casanova' (he considers himself so), with the unhealthy hobby of kidnapping young and brilliant students to create an art circle. In short, like the dead poets' society, with the slight difference that the members, if they do not satisfy our Casanova, are tied to a tree and... well, killed. Casanova has also kidnapped Alex's niece, who, rightfully concerned for her safety, with the help of a girl who managed to escape from Casanova, will manage to solve the case.

A good thriller in the end, but unfortunately loses a bit in the final encounter between Cross and Casanova. The killer tries to make Cross shoot him by telling him how much fun he had with his niece, but in my opinion, it doesn't work for a simple reason: we have mostly seen what Casanova did to the girl who managed to escape, to Cross's niece at most he made her play the violin (excellently, I might add). In short, we should imagine what the maniac really did to her, and anyway, Casanova will not seem as unbearable to you as the screenplay would like to sell him.

In return, Alex comes up with a great idea.

So despite the well-done chase scenes and the bad guy being a good villain, the film does not succeed in its main intent, which is to make the villain appear as a damned dog to be put down (forgive the terms).
