LA RECENSIONE

At his thirtieth year of life, Renato Abate, known as Garbo, reaches the end of the line with the major labels, after achieving several satisfactions and producing good and sometimes great things.

Manifesti represents the swan song to the general public, just as Love Story had been for Faust'O three years earlier. Renato and Fausto are two characters often to be read in parallel, both in their major phase and their independent one.

Overall, the work is more rock than the previous Il fiume, starting already with C'è.

È tardi, among my favorites, maintains the level, but it's with Ogni volta that the rhythms become faster, giving a certain imprint to the album.

Buio totale is also valid, creating a mood with the black and white cover that portrays the author with a hat and cigarette.

Dal silenzio is beautiful, with its crystal-clear keyboards and its lovely chorus "Nasce qui..."

Then comes Sere d'inverno, my favorite on the album and objectively among Renato's best in his career. That beautiful rhythmic intro and then the compelling chorus...

Extra Garbo is an extra track in every sense, first in the guitars, then in the sax, and finally in the keyboards. A difficult and arduous composition, but you can hear it's a bomb!

Direttamente al cuore is a dignified romantic pop track, while Shake it up concludes the album adding movement.

I rate Manifesti three and a half stars, the same as Il fiume.

After this, in 1990, 1.6.2 will be released, which Renato himself, via Facebook in 2020, explained to me means "Io sono due". Kindergarten will produce the album, marking the beginning of his independent discography.
