The Profile

Game Theory is an American power-pop band led by songwriter Scott Miller. Active from 1982 to 1990, the group became known for intricate, jangle-infused arrangements and adventurous studio ideas, with highlights including Lolita Nation and The Big Shot Chronicles.

Led by Scott Miller (1960–2013), Game Theory emerged from the 1980s American alternative scene and is often linked with the Paisley Underground. Mitch Easter produced The Big Shot Chronicles (1986). A posthumous Game Theory album, Supercalifragile, was released in 2017.

Two glowing DeBaser reviews celebrate Game Theory’s intricate power pop and Scott Miller’s songwriting genius. The Big Shot Chronicles is praised for crystalline hooks, bold arrangements, and Mitch Easter’s production. Lolita Nation is framed as baroque yet rigorous, shifting from power-pop surges to collage experiments. References to the Paisley Underground and standout tracks like “Erica’s Word” set the scene for essential listening.
