LA RECENSIONE

"IT'S TIME TO THRASH LIKE IT'S '86!!!!!!!!!!"

Great story. And that's how Gama Bomb, five young Irish thrashers insanely infatuated with B-movies and the like, behave.

Debut dated 2008, featuring excellent artwork, in perfect thrash style, a beautiful booklet, chaotic and full of video game quotes (like Konami, for example), and an exceptional production.

The lyrics are definitely varied: they talk about zombies ("Zombie Blood Nightmare", "Zombi Brew"), they pay tribute to some famous TV series ("In The Court Of General Zod" refers to Superman, "Return Of The Technodrome" to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). They also pay homage to Nuclear Assault with "Global Waning", S.O.D. with "OCP" (also stylistically) and the legendary video games "Double Dragon" with "Final Fight" (however, the lyrics are quite obscene) and "Space Invaders" with the eponymous song.

As you may have guessed, these five youngsters (well, one of them has it) are not very serious people, inspired by the "Clowns Of Metal", Anthrax. In particular, Philly Byrne, the singer, reminds of the much more famous Joey Belladonna, especially in the screaming. It's really difficult to name the best song, and hard even the worst: indeed, apart from the aforementioned "OCP", THEY ALL SOUND THE SAME! And not just structurally, but also compositionally: same riff reshuffled, same drums (but after all, it's Thrash), same chorus with different lyrics. If for Warbringer the problem was the lyrics, for Gama Bomb, this is the flaw. Thankfully, the quality is high, the choruses are very catchy, and at least the riff excites.

In short, they're all enjoyable songs, in tune with the album: to put it briefly, who cares will have a great record to listen to with friends for a bit of mosh together. For others, it would be better to aim for something else, and I mean the originals since Thrash Revival hasn't invented anything, it just recalls the charge of the first Thrash bands and that's it. Fun, but nothing more.

Gama Bomb's debut album Citizen Brain channels 80s thrash with furious riffs, catchy choruses, and lyrics full of B-movie and video game nods. Though musically repetitive, the album delivers high energy and nostalgic fun. It’s an enjoyable record perfect for thrash fans looking for a spirited, party-ready album. Originality may be lacking, but the enthusiasm and production quality make it a solid listen.
