I decided to listen to this album, "Hours," driven more by curiosity, already convinced beforehand that I would be facing yet another English rock band with a penchant for that power-rock, tending towards metal, very dear to American bands. Indeed, I was confirmed in this.
Tight drum rhythms, powerful and distorted guitar riffs provide the common thread for all 11 tracks on the CD, but this doesn't stop FFAF from including instrumental passages worthy of note, imprinting their own style. Ample space given to melody, which ultimately ends up taking the lead, leaving you with a couple of choruses that, rest assured, will accompany you for the rest of the day.
The album transitions from tracks like "All the rage" and "Alvarez", two of the most neurotic and aggressive pieces, to melodic, yet not at all predictable ballads like "Drive" and the beautiful "History": "The sky will make me sick / so I'll give up on you / I'll give up on this".
The rhythm section supports the voice well, a voice that adapts well to various changes and is both determined and soft and intense in the more melodic parts. Concluding the album is "Sonny", a bitter ballad that develops on an electronic base and then explodes together in the finale, like a freeing scream necessary at the end of a long struggle.
I have a doubt: is it just me getting excited about so little, or is there really something to be excited about?
