LA RECENSIONE

“Dolore Inconoclasta” is a split between Funera Edo and Inner (the former from Romagna, the latter from Emilia), released at the beginning of 2011 by our own Lo-Fi Creatures. For both groups, this split represents their first official work, although it's worth noting that Funera Edo already introduced themselves to the scene in 2006 with a self-produced demo.

This split, from its title and its questionably significant cover, doesn't suggest anything particularly interesting, but let's begin in order: to break the ice, Funera Edo presents with six tracks. They produce a rather banal Black Metal, certainly not innovative and undoubtedly already heard. Their sound is at least fifteen years old. However, despite this derivative approach full of clichés, the band has some strengths that don't go unnoticed. The Romagna combo manages to offer various catchy riffs that make their Black Metal rather melodic and catchy, also thanks to production above average. Unfortunately, even Funera Edo, despite their efforts, fall into the usual banalities with their lyrics; titles like “Il Ritorno del Lupo” and “Guerriero del Sole Nero” are decidedly ridiculous in 2011.

The second half of the split features Inner with their raw and muddled sound, their dull compositions, and their total anonymity. The four tracks offered by the Emilian band pass without leaving any mark; they are not to be entirely dismissed, as some minimal good ideas surface: a certain taste for atmosphere and a voice that cannot be defined as classic scream are the aspects that prevent this handful of tracks from being discarded. The same discussion applies to Inner’s lyrics as with their colleagues Funera Edo; embarrassing.

In conclusion, Funera Edo is a band with great potential, but they need to break away from genre stereotypes and seek a more personal sound, because as long as they remain chained to wolves and company, they will only find themselves going in circles. Inner, on the other hand, is a band that, despite some good insights, has a long way to go. Ultimately, this is a split that one can avoid owning, but it is important to keep an eye on Funera Edo's next moves, as in the near future they might make a leap in quality.

Summary by Bot

The split album 'Dolore Iconoclasta' features Funera Edo and Inner, both debuting officially in 2011. Funera Edo delivers a melodic yet clichéd black metal sound with decent production, while Inner presents raw and indistinct compositions. Both bands struggle with unoriginal lyrics. The review suggests Funera Edo has promise if they move beyond genre stereotypes, whereas Inner still has much progress to make. Overall, the album may be skipped but keeping track of Funera Edo's future work is advised.
