THE REVIEW

It's September 2008, two years after the release of "Transparent Things". Drummer Lee Adams has joined Fujiya & Miyagi, yet this "Lightbulbs" picks up exactly where its predecessor left off: the intro of "Knickerbocker", the album's opener, honestly bears too close a resemblance to the little gem that is "Ankle Injuries".

In short, the sound is unmistakably that of Fujiya & Miyagi, although upon closer listening something has changed: some of the liveliness that distinguished "Transparent Things" is lost, the dancing brightness of tracks like "In One Ear & Out The Other" or "Sucker Punch" is completely missing here and overall the album sounds more dark, harsh, and edgy: much lower and less electronic, to convey the idea sonically.

Listening is still recommended, especially for those who like the genre, because the quality is always guaranteed and the talent is expressed differently but present as in the predecessor: you will then decide which of the two sides of this band you prefer, whether the carefree and springlike nature of "Transparent Things" or the melancholic and autumnal one of this "Lightbulbs".

Summary by Bot

Lightbulbs by Fujiya & Miyagi continues the sound of its predecessor Transparent Things with a new drummer on board. The album adopts a darker and edgier tone, losing some of the previous liveliness but maintaining quality and talent. Listeners are encouraged to explore both albums to appreciate the band's different moods. Overall, Lightbulbs offers a melancholic, more sonically harsh experience while preserving the band's unmistakable style.
