THE REVIEW

Among the many subgenres of metal, most have died (as we know, many albums sell well, and record labels eagerly await it), but one genre that still exists and has not succumbed is grind, and Fuck the Facts have probably contributed to this.

Briefly describing their musical offering, one could say it captures the essence of Nuclear Death, imbuing it with a more hardcore vein and modernizing it without falling into commerciality and banality. Fuck the Facts are reborn with a new lineup (which I much prefer over the one-man project of some EPs and the all-male lineup of Mullet Fever), with Topon on guitar and drums, Vil on bass, and Mel on vocals; a notable merit about her is simply the fact that she is among the most aggressive voices one might imagine, a lineup that would wipe out Arch Enemy and Otep.

This album marks a clear difference from their previous records, where past experimental EPs and in-your-face albums are (listening to their music) mixed and reworked. The jazz technique in some guitar pieces brings them closer to mathcore (The Sound of Your Smashed Head and the powerful Taken from the Nest), but the difference is mostly found in the vocals; nothing less than a desperate howl that continually lashes out at the whole world, a voice not bolstered by distorters, not praised by thousands of fans, a natural voice born of anger and passion for any musical genre (in this case, grind).

Stunning, hallucinogenic, extreme, powerful, catchy, an extremely interesting novelty.

Fuck the Facts

Fuck the Facts is a Canadian grindcore band formed in 1998 by guitarist Topon Das in Ottawa. Evolving from a solo project into a full lineup with vocalist Mélanie Mongeon, the group is known for a self-described ‘bastardized grindcore’ that folds in noise, death metal, crust, post-hardcore, and experimental elements. Key releases include Stigmata High-Five (2006) and Disgorge Mexico (2008) on Relapse, plus later albums on their Noise Salvation imprint.
