THE REVIEW

If you like Monster Magnet and Queens of the Stone Age, this is the album you're looking for. Some retro power pop, full of fuzzy guitars and an extremely rich bass, sung perhaps irritatingly by the leader Scott Hill, who tries to mimic the irony of Frank Black and doesn't want to lose points to the leader of Incubus, Brandon Boyd. I recommend focusing on the excellent "Hang On," on "Bultaco," and on "Wiz Kid." Don't be surprised if they all sound a bit the same to you. It's a limit of the genre, not the band. However, to get the band's best album, you need to go back to 1996 with "In search of.."

California Crossing by Fu Manchu offers a solid stoner rock experience reminiscent of Monster Magnet and Queens of the Stone Age. The album features fuzzy guitars and prominent bass, though the vocals might feel irritating to some. Standout tracks include "Hang On," "Bultaco," and "Wiz Kid." For the band's best work, fans should explore their 1996 album "In Search Of...".

Fu Manchu

Fu Manchu are an American stoner rock band from Southern California (Orange County/San Clemente area), formed in 1990 from the ashes of the hardcore punk band Virulence. Their sound is commonly described as riff-heavy, fuzz-drenched hard rock with wah-wah leads and a slacker vocal approach, often contrasted with Kyuss’ more desert-psychedelic angle.
