Let's make one thing clear right away: Freedom Call is a band that is not easy to talk about artistically, but for better or worse, despite a large group of people who hate them regardless, listening to one of their albums is still an enjoyable experience. A happy musical proposal, with choruses to sing at the top of your lungs everywhere, thinking of Dan Zimmermann's double bass drum and Chris Bay's voice.
Dimensions continues the series of "joyful" albums that began in 1999 with the debut "Stairway to Fairyland". Released three years ago, Dimensions presents itself with its power/happy energy developed over the years by the German band and with the entry of Lars Rettkowitz and Armin Donderer replacing Cedric Dupont on guitar and Ilker Ersin on bass.
Freedom Call's music is directly linked to the use of keyboards and guitar. These two instruments outline the main melody of the tracks on which Bay extends his vocals. No difficult songs, no prog transitions. Power made immediate, with powerful and evocative choruses to give the songs that something extra that makes them truly captivating. In fact, after the intro "Demons Dance," "Innocent World" makes things clear right away: guitar, voice, and drums in unison to sing the chorus "free world of innocence, no more tears and lies,
children so innocent". These words alone are enough to understand the band's intentions, always interested in the younger ones as well as in political and environmental causes. In fact, in "Innocent World" (one of the highlights of the album), a part is reserved specifically for the younger ones who sing the chorus, making the song truly "innocent."
Other great examples of happy metal are the extraordinary "Light Up The Sky" and "Far Away", while "Blackened Sun" and the title track are perhaps the least inspired of the album. The reason lies in the fact that they are the two most "experimental" songs of the platter and, for this reason, less close to the genre of the five Germans.
"Dimensions" means almost fifty minutes of joy and not at all complex musical solutions, with which the band only wants to keep us company. In fact, they should not be regarded for their artistic importance in the metal scene (although over the years they have created a real genre), but they should be accepted as they are. Singing the choruses of songs like "Innocent World", "Queen of My World", and "Far Away" (just to name a few) in front of a nice pint of beer is Freedom Call's minimum goal, who, regardless of criticism, have nevertheless demonstrated great compositional consistency, guaranteeing their fans the usual professionalism. Rating 3 and a half.

Tracklist and Lyrics
05 Starlight ()
Hear - the queen of the universe
Real - can you feel the breeze of life, tonight
Have you ever been, out in the skies
Have you ever seen, the beacon in the night
She's my starlight, she lasts forever
Silver starlight, she holds me in her arms
Here - oasis of harmony
Real - once she only was a dream, the light
Have you ever been, out in the skies
Have you ever seen, the beacon in the night
She's my starlight, she lasts forever
Silver starlight, she holds me in her arms
Hold me in your arms
She - is made for eternity
Clear - clear like the source of life, my life
10 Starchild ()
Once you came, along, down to earth
To let your wisdom shine
A flame, a light for all the world
Your mission was divine, so divine
Now you should come and try again
We're running out of time
A world, a land of misery
Where blind men lead the blind
Starchild, starbright
You give us a reason, to help us believe
Starchild, starbright
You are the reason, the reason to live
Starchild, Starchild, enlighten the darkness
Starchild, Starchild, sent down from heaven
Starchild, Starchild, it seems that the world never learned
Bring your heart and soul, come back to earth
The world has gone insane
2005 years ago
Your deeds seemed to be in vain

The German band, dedicated to what I renamed as "beer-happy metal," is absolutely perfect in this situation with its stadium-like choruses.
To appreciate a record like this, you indeed need to be happy and cheerful.
