Many may not know 'Freedom Call', a German power metal band that in 1999 released "Stairway to Fairyland," an album that paved the way for excellent records like "Eternity" and "Crystal Empire" (too commercial "The Circle of Life").
But now let's analyze the tracks. The album opens with "OVER THE RAINBOW," one of the best songs on the album, a true fantasy anthem. The album continues with "TEARS FALLING," a track that's neither here nor there. It proceeds with "FAIRYLAND" and "SHINE ON," which serve as a prelude to "WE ARE ONE," the best song on the album, supported by an excellent rhythmic part by Zimmermann.
Then come "HYMN TO THE BRAVE" and "TEARS OF TARAGON," the latter inspiring the later mini-CD "Taragon." Finally, "GRACELAND," "HOLY KNIGHT," "ANOTHER DAY," and "KINGDOM COME," an excellent track that ends this album beautifully.
'Freedom Call' doesn't have great success in Italy, but in other regions of Europe they are gaining great popularity. I hope to have encouraged some metalheads to listen to this album, which, being their first album, cannot be considered a masterpiece. Nevertheless, an excellent album with fantasy hues and kudos to the drummer Dan Zimmermann, ex 'Gamma Ray'.
