We are in 2002 when Freedom Call give birth to Eternity, an excellent album that follows the mini-cd "Taragon" and "Crystal Empire".An album both more mature and more engaging than their first two works.
The record opens with Metal Invasion, a play on words for the live album released 2 years later (Live Invasion), but above all, like all the first songs of a Freedom Call album, a true hymn dedicated to fantasy with riffs that recall fantastic atmospheres. It continues with The Eyes Of The World, marked as always by Zimmermann's excellent work behind the drums. Next comes Flying High, an engaging song with a great chorus sung by the whole band, and the stunning Land Of Light, another hymn to power metal. Another anthem is Warriors, which starts instrumentally (for a few seconds) before being sung in chorus and then unfolds in all its beauty. But in my opinion, the sixth track is the most beautiful and interesting, namely Ages Of Power, introduced by a keyboard intro before transitioning into the usual four and a half minutes of fierce song with Dan not missing a beat.
Following are Turn Back Time, Island Of Dreams, and The Spell, the latter being a small introduction with medieval choirs leading to Bleeding Heart, a splendid song in which guitar and keyboard alternate excellently for a truly well-to-do song. The album concludes with Flame In The Night, perhaps a bit too repetitive in the chorus but nonetheless effective and nice.
The significant strides made by the German band are noteworthy, and compliments to the singer Chris Bay who, even though he doesn't possess an excellent voice, still delivers a great performance.A record that fans of the genre should not miss.
