Actual Life 1 (2020), Actual Life 2 (2021), Actual Life 3 (2022), three albums, a single project to describe the three years of the pandemic (finally) gone by. But let's start in order, the author is one Fred Again.., a name almost unknown, but if you search online you find him associated with the role of producer for much more famous artists, including Ed Sheeran, Elle Goulding, Clean Bandit, etc. Fred Again.. in this project turns the feeling of distancing and estrangement these three years have left us into music. His tracks are constructed in a simple but never trivial way, sampling phone calls between friends and metropolitan sounds become the inspiration to create a different melody each time, sometimes with a nod to house, other times to soul/R&B, and other times becoming a simple piano loop. Almost all the tracks are titled with the name of a person, who could be the artist he collaborated with or the friend from whom he drew inspiration, because in the end all we have and what we profoundly missed during these years is connecting with other people. From the first to the third album, a noticeable transformation in sound and content is evident, moving from a more intimate atmosphere to a more festive and club-oriented one, indicating the pandemic is passing, and we are ready to return to the dance floors. In a total of 45 tracks (the sum of the three albums), certainly, some are more successful than others. There are tracks that have become hits playing on the radio, like “Marea (We’ve lost dancing)” and “Billie (Loving arms),” but the most beautiful thing is to listen to them all and discover little unknown gems on your own, finding the tracks that touch us the most and move us, among the many I cannot help but mention “Delilah (pull me out of this),” Angie (I’ve been lost), and Dermot (see yourself in my eyes).
A diary that cannot leave one indifferent, a round of applause to Fred Again.. for succeeding with electronic music in describing the sensations of isolation, distance, lack, lostness, all sensations that many fortunately experienced for the first and only time during these two/three years, but which for others unfortunately have represented the norm for a long time.
"We've lost dancing (lost dancing)
This year we've had to lose
Our space, we've lost
We've lost dancing"
