Franz Peter Schubert (31 January 1797 – 19 November 1828) was an Austrian composer of the early Romantic era, celebrated for his Lieder, piano works, chamber music and symphonies.

Born in Vienna on 31 January 1797; died in Vienna on 19 November 1828. Prolific composer noted especially for his songs (Lieder), the late piano sonatas, chamber works such as the String Quintet D.956 and the String Quartet No.14 "Death and the Maiden", and symphonies including the Ninth.
