A beautiful beach, a sunset on the horizon. And "Ivy" playing in the background.
A perfect life. Living life with Frank Ocean in the background, perpetually. From someone who comes from the world's most outlandish collective, it can't help but make you wonder what amazing musical madness he'll put in front of you: and indeed the pitched voice at the beginning of Nikes hints at a cosmic delirium, but Frank is still an R'n'B singer with dignity. And for those who think Kanye West postponed his latest work too much, Frank Ocean made us wait something like 4 YEARS!
But it was worth it. Yes, one day I want to race across the desert in a dune buggy, with Godspeed playing in the background: the chaos and the slowness united together, to reach total Nirvana! I, too, would like to review my past while Nights rolls through my mind. Walk on the beach with Self Control. Reflect on my mistakes with Solo. Maybe see myself in introverted Frank and his lyrics. And thank God for including André 3000, even if just for a single minute of a track.
The lyrics, often very personal and not always rosy, immediately capture you with an absurd singing style. A voice almost suffering, that is cradled by the predominant slowness of the instrumentals and by that electric guitar that occasionally appears to color the sound collage of Blonde, one of the most beautiful albums released in 2016. If Drake and Kanye West didn't manage the hype perfectly, Frank Ocean emerges as the winner among the big names and gifts us a pearl of emotions, reaffirming himself as the best among his R'n'B colleagues after 4 years. Sorry, The Weeknd and Daft Punk, but this year he won!
