Charles Thompson IV, known as Black Francis and Frank Black, was the leader of the Pixies and has an extensive solo career that followed the band's initial breakup.

Leader of the Pixies; adopted the name Frank Black for his solo work after the Pixies split. Reviews note Honeycomb was recorded with Nashville musicians (Buddy Miller, Spooner Oldham, Anton Fig, Reggie Young) and that his solo albums explore a range from alternative rock to country-tinged, intimate arrangements.

Three DeBaser reviews celebrate Frank Black's solo work, praising songwriting, reinvention, and vocal delivery. Teenager Of The Year is described as energetic and varied; Frank Black (1993) is framed as a successful bridge from the Pixies; Honeycomb is noted for its intimate, Nashville-tinged sound. Overall the reviews are enthusiastic and appreciative.

For:Fans of the Pixies, alternative/indie rock listeners, and those interested in singer-songwriter / country-tinged records.

Frank Black is a damned genius of a chubby guy, and I care about him.

In 1992, Black Francis (born Charles Thompson IV), the brilliant and despotic leader of the Pixies, decided to turn the page and definitively disband the group; the cause can be traced back to a series of personal resentments that had developed among the band members (particularly towards Kim Deal, whose creative contribution in the last two Pixies albums had been drastically reduced) and that had now irreparably undermined the harmony.
