One DeBaser review (KyraCollins) reads Goya's El tres de mayo de 1808 en Madrid as powerfully dramatic and subjectively charged. The review argues for an expressionist reading and praises Goya's technique and use of light. It situates the painting as pivotal in how war is depicted in art. The reviewer gives a balanced, reflective account rather than an unqualified celebration.
