"General behind the hill there is the German night, an assassin" Yes, but I liked "Natale", the B-side. And I liked it before, during, and after.

Before, because it was the before of a beautiful thing. During, because, indeed, it was a beautiful thing.

And after, because the beauty of music is the quality of the silence that comes afterward. And that silence I saw especially in how it settled on my doll's eyes. And my doll was in love with Francesco.

My doll and I organized lovely receptions, cups and saucers, embroidery and lace. Everything in its right place like young ladies do. Francesco always arrived, said hello, and, in silence, drank tea.

"And from behind the door, I hear someone coming up. but they stop two floors down. It's a real shame, but I already knew it couldn't be you anyway"

"But instead, it was me," said the doll. And a smile escaped her, just like in the song. "If you let a smile escape, it stays on your face, that cheerful sadness you have"

That's how my doll smiled. And maybe I did too.
