OK, now you're probably wondering: who are these Fozzy? Let me tell you right away.
Fozzy is the band of wrestler Chris Irvine, better known as Chris “Y2J” Jericho.
This All That Remains, released this year, is the first real album by the group: in the past Fozzy had released other CDs, but all with covers of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and so on. Here, instead, we finally have a solid heavy metal that allows me to better assess the band's skill.
The album can also be considered modern rock (in my opinion, they remind me of 3 Doors Down and Alter Bridge), although there are some "old school metal" riffs and others more nu-metal.
Let's talk about the songs: my favorites are NAMELESS FACELESS, ENEMY (the single), the title track ALL THAT REMAINS, and IT’S A LIE. And it's in these tracks that Fozzy gives their best. The others are decent and little more. Also noteworthy is the presence of numerous guests; from Zack Wilde (Black Label Society) to Marty Friedman (Megadeth), serious people indeed...
What is this album missing? Certainly a bit more grit wouldn't hurt and then it seems to me a CD that's too simple and not very creative, despite the product offered by Jericho and company being very valid. At least it's commendable that, after having played only covers, Fozzy played something of their own.
In conclusion, "All That Remains" is a very interesting album, but not so much that you'd tear your hair out over it.
