Busy as he is with the Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid project, this year Four Tet decided to focus on compilations. In June, we found him in the role of DJ in the prestigious cult series Dj-Kicks, while in September, Domino released the collection of Remixes that you are reading about.
The touch of this English genius of IDM (intelligent dance music) is unmistakable, even in this collection. It is an opportunity for Hebden to pay tribute to the names closest to his musical world (noblesse oblige): indeed, we find Lars Hornveth (from Jaga Jazzist), Radiohead, Madvillain (aka MFdoom), His Name Is Alive, Sia, Aphex Twin, Bonobo, Rothko, Beth Orton, Bloc Party, and Pole. Their tracks, genetically modified in the renowned Four Tet Lab, are all successful and, despite their original biodiversity, after treatment they acquire an almost total homogeneity.
Yes, this is a record that flows smoothly and can be wonderfully listened to.

There's also a second CD where we find a collection of Four Tet tracks remixed by himself, or by people like Jay Dee, Manitoba, Battles, Perce P, Boom Bip, Icarus, and others. However, the highlight is certainly represented by the first CD: tracks like Skttrbrain by Radiohead, Money Folder by Madvillain - which even features two remixes - or the 11:47 dedicated to Beth Orton, are worth the purchase, perhaps not entirely necessary, yet pleasant company.
