The release of Dialogue (1998) was a revelation, Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet was twenty-one, immediately considered a genius, and today he is defined as the "father" of the glitch or folktronica genre.
A friend recently reminded me of a quote by Brian Eno, who in the early eighties declared: "The musician of the future is the DJ...". Indeed.

Hebden makes use of the art of cut and paste, in short, he creates loops and modifies them at will, as well as being an excellent instrumentalist. He develops instrumental musical trips without rules or schemes, recreating his own personal musical dimension made of downtempo, broken breaks, 60s jazz, and organic sounds. It could be said that Hebden is an artist of laptronica since his instrument is the laptop.
The world of trip-hop is not far away, but Four Tet transcends boundaries, he is unique like his incredible sampled jazz drumming. He has always included some Asian meditative resonance in his records, and his compositions often give a sense of intimacy.

He supported the American tour of Radiohead, was the bassist in the world tour of Badly Drawn Boy, and has remixed everyone from Aphex Twin to Bloc Party. So, he's not a newcomer. With Everything Ecstatic, Four Tet's experience regenerates: the guy wants to shake off those labels that annoy him, now his sound is more "abrasive", and he has made that step forward that has been long anticipated. The genius has returned more charged than ever with intensity and magic, he has outdone himself, and this is his highest work ever.
