Now that those 5 clones (4? I don’t know. Who cares) of Justin Bieber called One Direction have popped up and are being insulted (not without good reason), there’s no peace because there are people aged 12 to 16 (if not older, but people older than me behaving like this quite unsettles me) who can't think that the worldwide music scene doesn't just stop at MTV and the like. Therefore, they indulge in the usual insults towards famous names of the current mainstream, at the fans of these people, going so far as to insult the entire modern music production of which they know 0.1%. They then retreat into a cocoon made up of Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Queen, Guns'n'Roses, AC/DC, and artists more famous than those they insult (the difference being they hail from the 60s, 70s, and 80s—now that was "real" music!) and in some cases not even much better, listening to them only for their fame and among them always the same.
Hence the thesis that fanaticism for Led Zeppelin leads to the belief of holding the absolute truth and believing that the entire world music production lines up with Rihanna and Katy Perry (obviously, this notion applies to teenagers) and it is very sad to see young people reasoning like their parents or grandparents and believing that the ruin (well, exaggerated, let's say disgrace) of the generation are the beliebers, instead of them. I’m digressing. No! One more thing, and then I’ll talk about this album (how long, let’s see, it will take me to say it).
Oh well, these beings that when you ask them something about modern music, they always bring up Justin Bieber (Ah! maybe they listen to Linkin Park who are obviously the only ones they appreciate today, yes, they are original and not commercial, this pathetic story of "commercial" music—Enough! Talk about the record— just a moment! I still have to say that thing).
I was saying, these beings give their best when it comes to punk, and they bring up the Sex Pistols and the old, hypocritical, false, rotten, that gigantic nonsense of the "spirit, philosophy, punk ideology" which, if it really has to exist, must be far away from the Sex Pistols. Well, according to them, punk is one of those "real" music genres that died, only they know only the Sex Pistols and maybe the Ramones, and today they know the Green Day (but not those of Kerplunk, those of American Idiot. But to push something into their heads, there are tons of bands to make them listen to. This virus that pushes to say that today's punk sucks also extends to nostalgic purists who reach out to listen to Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Crass, Subhumans, The Germs, Dead Boys, etc. (not bad), the modern subgenre targeted is Melodic Hardcore, born with a certain band called Bad Religion, which I challenge anyone to find the courage to insult, would suck and wouldn’t be punk (here a resounding “Eh Be?” would fit).
A genre full of superb bands.
Not only based on subjective tastes. But also on instrumental techniques. These bands KNOW how to play. Bands that are also not well known but know how to be loved.
Like the French Forus. Ultra-technical skate punk/melodic hardcore punk group, author of this album “We” dated 2011. Only 2 songs exceed 2:30. A breathless start with “I Only Go To School For Handrails”, tempo changes, so much technique, super fast drumming, melody, speed. Everything you need for a song of this genre. Or take “The Unlucky Number” or any other track from the album, it has a riff that immediately sticks in your head, it has an enviable technique, and everything needed to be appreciated.
We’re in 2011, this is just one of the thousands of valid bands today.
This is a great album.
But anyone who’s nostalgic for the 70s is certainly not obliged to listen. Better still. They don’t deserve it.
And who cares if it’s not punk.
