Another comedic video. And it was the least expected, for a band that has always stood out for the irony and theatricality of its videos. Among the many, we remember:

  1. Big Me: where the band, still young and with the old lineup, had fun roaming around the city, and whenever they encountered danger or an awkward situation, they grabbed a pack of Mentos (renamed "FOOtos" the fresh fighters), and suddenly the danger vanished, bringing smiles back to the actors' faces.
  2. Everlong: where Grohl, in a dream, finds himself in the famous "HOUSE" of Sam Raimi, completely mocked with insane role swaps, and he has to save his beauty (always a band member playing the part). The dream changes, and little by little, after a thousand awakenings, Dave and the band go wild, overturning beds and armchairs at the song's most intense moment.
  3. Breakout: a legendary reinterpretation of the best scenes from "Me, Myself & Irene" at a drive-in with a nerdy Grohl and a tough Grohl (alter ego) alternating between stage and rest stop in a series of comedic sketches until a "Breakout" is heard, signaling Dave the tough guy's anger as he sings the chorus on stage.
  4. Learn to Fly: the funny Jack Black, a helper on a plane, puts a packet of drugs in the coffee machine. Once the passengers board (the crew are the band members transformed into other characters), the hostess offers them coffee and gives it to the pilots, who cannot maintain control of the plane. The only ones who haven't drunk coffee are Dave and company, who save the flight, "learning to fly on the way back."
  5. The One: for the film Orange County, Dave takes the place of Jack Black (who acts in the film) and improvises as an actor in the city college, auditioning for actors who will be included in the film's cast. Naturally, every scene ends up being ridiculous, and Mr. Grohl does not disappoint at all.

Many other videos have remained memorable in the band's career, but this new video, "Long Road to Ruin," really shows that Dave is more than a great musician: he's truly a great comedic actor!

In a sort of mockery of "Dr. House," the band finds itself in an operating room filming a soap opera, and Dave is a love-struck and clumsy doctor with a legendary beer-Peroni-like mustache and a thick hairstyle like the lead singer of the New Trolls in their heyday. However, his love is not fully reciprocated, and his friends don't want him because he can't act and always ruins every scene.
He consoles himself among his fans who ask him for autographs for the album he produced with his group "Dave Grolton Band," with whom he plays in a shopping center, wearing a glittering 70s suit.
Among the crowd of young girls and fans, however, he notices the woman he loves and starts running on the escalators, trying to reach her, but she escapes.
Finally, in a stunning red convertible, he pretends to drive (like in "The Easy Life" or any 60s-70s movie where the car is fake and the road unfolds on the screen in the background) and ends up unwittingly in a ravine, dying in his burning car.

What madness!

Tracklist and Lyrics

01   Long Road to Ruin (03:47)

Here now, don't make a sound
Say, have you heard the news today?
One flag was taken down
To raise another in its place

A heavy cross you bear
A stubborn heart remains unchanged
No harm, no life, no love
No stranger singin' in your name

But maybe the season
The colors change in the valley skies
Dear God, I've sealed my fate
Runnin' through hell, heaven can wait

Long road to ruin there in your eyes
Under the cold streetlights
No tomorrow, no dead end in sight

Let's say we take this town
No king or queen of any state
Get up to shut it down
Open the streets and raise the gates

I know a wall to scale
I know a field without a name
Head on without a care
Before it's way too late

Maybe the season
The colors change in the valley skies
Oh God, I've sealed my fate
Runnin' through hell, heaven can wait

Long road to ruin there in your eyes
Under the cold streetlights
No tomorrow, no dead end

Long road to ruin there in your eyes
Under the cold streetlights
No tomorrow, no dead end in sight

For every piece to fall in place
Forever gone without a trace
Your horizon takes its shape
No turnin' back, don't turn that page

Come now, I'm leavin' here tonight
Come now, let's leave it all behind
Is that the price you pay
Runnin' through hell, heaven can wait

Long road to ruin there in your eyes
Under the cold streetlights
No tomorrow, no dead ends

Long road to ruin there in your eyes
Under the cold streetlights
No tomorrow, no dead ends

Long road to ruin there in your eyes
Under the cold streetlights
No tomorrow, no dead end in sight

02   Keep the Car Running (03:26)

03   Big Me (03:00)

When I talk about it
Carries on
Reasons only knew
When I talk about it
Aries or
Treasons all renew

Big me to talk about it
I could stand to prove
If we can get around it
I know that it's true

When I talked about it
Carried on
Reasons only knew
But it's you
I fell into

When I talked about it
Carries on
Reasons only knew
When I talk about it
Aries or
Treasons all renew

Big me to talk about it
I could stand to prove
If we can get around it
I know that it's true

Well I talked about it
Put it on
Never was it true
But it's you
I fell into

Well I talked about it
Put it on
Never was it true
But it's you
I fell into
I fell into
I fell into
