LA RECENSIONE

During the same days when the global critics are deciding that Lana Del Rey's latest is better than Bach, I listened to a few things I've read about, including the debut of Fontaines D.C. which I found absolutely crappy. The straight bass in Joy Division style can be used without being so shitty - an example: the early DIIV -, the flat nasal singing can also be done with a more irreverent twist, and Irish pub anthems can be done without the fear of being beaten by the police for "the uncomfortable things we said," but on the other hand there's that story about the bumblebee's wing structure, which is somewhat the instrumental structure of this band, which unlike the bumblebee knows, but doesn’t know, and so maybe we shouldn't blame them if they make crappy music. Just flush it down the toilet along with all that stuff you already know.

Summary by Bot

The reviewer found Fontaines D.C.'s debut album Dogrel to be disappointing and unoriginal. They criticized the uninspired bass, nasal vocals, and lack of energy in the Irish pub anthem style. Comparisons to Joy Division and DIIV showed a preference for more innovative approaches. Overall, the album failed to impress and was described harshly.

This Post-Pub music is sexual and sensual, it is harsh and dirty, venereal.

Fontaines D.C. have everything I have already discussed: + Mark E. Smith navigating a sea of hisses, + the most enveloping Cure, + mid-’80s psychedelia with that indie twist.
